Miss Alex has 20 years of dance experience which includes ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, Ukrainian dance, and dance/ cheer teams. She began dancing at the age of three at Angela’s dance studio, but decided to focus on ballet at the age of 9. Alex began her ballet training (in Voganova styling) under Joanne Hughes Morscher at the Royal School of Ballet (now Great Lakes Youth Ballet). She also studied Ukrainian dance at the Kashtan School of Dance under David Wozniak and Markian Komichak, and became an ensemble member shortly thereafter. Alex concluded her formal ballet and pointe training at Cleveland Dance Academy under Christine Galleti and Paula Devereaux.
Throughout her performance career, Alex has held several lead roles and won several high awards in various dance competitions and showcases. Alex began her collegiate dance career, but decided to pursue degrees in biomechanics/ exercise physiology and dietetics at the University of Cincinnati. During her college career, Alex taught ballet, contemporary ballet, and hip-hop, as well as obtained Zumba certification. Alex has both attended and conducted numerous master classes, intensives, camps, and workshops to keep up-to-date with the current dance world, and was able to study chorographical technique and style.
As a choreographer, Alex has earned awards and been featured for original choreography in classical and contemporary ballet. Currently, Alex is working on obtaining her doctorate degree and working as a clinical researcher by day, and as the ballet/ pointe/ contemporary teacher by night. Alex is absolutely thrilled to be a staff member at The Dance Step, and is excited to be a part of this amazing dance family!
